 | Press Releases Eastern Cape Health urges compassion and consideration
The Eastern Cape Department of Health understands that there are negotiations currently underway between Labour and the DPSA on salaries and benefits. We respect this process and kindly request that all employees of the department of Health act responsibly during this period because we are rendering an essential service to poor and indigent people. Health is an essential and vital service and patient care and safety should not be compromised because of a wage dispute.
Poor and indigent patients are innocent and should not be used as a bargaining tool. The safety of all patients and staff is of critical importance to all of us and thus we urge all unions to refrain from any form of violence and intimidation.
An appeal is also being made to all District Health Councils s Health Council to co-ordinate with District Health Managers to recruit volunteers and retired health professionals who are willing to assist in Clinics and Hospitals where necessary.
We once again reiterate our position that Health is an essential service in terms of the Labour Relation Act and we urge all Professionals to kindly remember the Hypocratic Oath as well the Nurses Pledge of Services.
