ECDoH launches men’s health awareness programme.

Eastern Cape department of health in collaboration with (CANSA) Cancer Association of South Africa launched a Men’s Health Campaign in New Brighton at Nangoza Jebe hall, Port Elizabeth, on the 26 August 2008 with the theme “Smart men should protect his assets.”  

  Mr. Skade for Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) in Eastern Cape explained the purpose of the launch which is to create awareness about the Cancers that are common particularly in men.     Medical Superintendent Provincial Hospital Dr W.L. Maqagi articulated on behalf of the MEC Ms Pemmy Majodina the fact that this day is for awareness campaign for common cancer of males i.e. cancer Prostate and Testicular. “Other Cancers that occur in both males and female i.e. Breast, Cervix, Lung and Oesophogus are crucial common by smoking, foodstuffs and drinking. Men particularly are in this campaign seemingly to prevent Cancer.

Men are encouraged to Testicular self examine (TSE) themselves.” Dr Maqagi said.   Men were encouraged to highly observe the following:   A small (pea-sized), painless lump in a testicle.Not all lumps are cancerous Enlarged testicle, feeling of heaviness in the testicle or groin, fluid that suddenly accumulates in the scrotum, pain in the testicle, enlarged breasts and nipples.   T
