Keywords: Mbizana, Public Service Week

A group of health workers assembled at the O.R Tambo District’s Mbizana Local Municipality to render health services as part of the week long interdepartmental Public Service Week from the 23-27 June 2008.

The week kicked off in Mthatha on the 23 June, at the O.R Tambo District Municipality Hall for the Africa Public Service Day which was meant to outline the programme of the week.   Communities from Bizana who were served on the week include those from Tsawana, Bonda, Ngele and Mmangweni who came out in big numbers to access free services.

One community member who wanted to remain anonymous said the area still is in need of these kinds of services, “I hope this is not the end because this area is always forgotten and service delivery is always around Mthatha.

Among other health services offered by the department were Oral Health Services, TB screening, Health Promotion and Primary Health Services.   O.R Tambo District Manager, Mrs Mvulakazi Thipanyana urged the health workers to once more dedicate themselves to the service, “nothing is most fulfilling than helping those in need, let us forget about the money and focus on saving the lives of our people”, Mrs Thiphanyana said.

Thiphanyana also emphasized the need for health workers to be on time and treat the clients with the respect and dignity that they deserve, “ sending people away during tea time in our institutions needs to come to an end and we need not compare ourselves with other people”, she added.
