Our History
Bhisho Hospital replaced Mt Coke Hospital

Mt Coke Hospital was situated in Mt Coke Hospital Village +-10 km from King William's Town on the other side of Zwelitsha Location.

The Hospital was run/established by the Missionaries, then taken over by the then Ciskei Department of Health.  The Hospiital had 200 beds and was catering for Zwelitsha District Communities.  It was also a training school for General Nurses and Midwifery.

In December 1991the hospital moved to Bhisho Hospital i.e.Staff, Student Nurses and Patients.

Bhihso Hospital is +_km from Bhisho Legislature, aling the Komga Road.  Bhisho had 360 beds with 205 usable beds.  The nurses training continued up to 1996 when it was officially closed.

Bhisho Hospital caters for areas around King William's Town and Zwelitsha Magisterial Districts.  The hospital managers catered for both the hospitals and Primary Health Care (PHC) up until the PHC was officially separated from the hospital and had their own management.
