IKM Summit /Launch 2011 of Department of Health

The Department of Health in collaboration with the Office of the Premier has launched the mainstreaming and institutionalization of Innovation and Knowledge Management, as an attempt to address the issues of Skills Shortage and improve Primary Health Care Services. 

The Framework Agreement for the Department of Health Eastern Cape on the Implementation of Innovation and Knowledge Management as signed by the Honourable MEC for Health, Mr. S Gqobana reads as follows:
The Department of Health Eastern Cape hereby commit itself to implement the concept of Innovation and Knowledge Management within the  Department with the intention of improving Service Delivery and providing health access to all citizens of the Eastern Cape Province, particularly by focusing on the following:

  • Encouraging and Entrenching the concept of Innovation in the coal face of Service Delivery.
  • Improving Business Processes by introducing Incremental and Radical Innovation
  • Ensuring that the Intellectual Capital of the Department is preserved in order to avoid the brain drain constraints.
  • Facilitating the benchmarking and replication of successful Best Practices that aims to improve Health Services among the Districts and Local Institutions as well as from other Provinces.
  • Facilitating the establishment of Learning Networks among all the components of the Department including Districts,  Hospitals and Local Clinics with the intention of becoming the Best Practice Department
  • Promoting the Sharing of Knowledge and Transfer of Skills among the employees of the Department.
  • Establishing the Departmental Central Knowledge Repository in order to facilitate the Knowledge Flow within the Department.
